Superman: The Movie (Blu-ray 4K) Region All UK UPDATED

Post by Oliver_Wicks »

Hello :).

I've just received my UK copy of Superman: The Movie (Blu-ray 4K) and discovered the current specs for Disc 2 are mostly wrong so here are the correct ones:

Title: Superman: The Movie
Country: UK
Region: All
Releasing Studio: Warner Home Video
Case Type: Amaray Keep Case
Aspect Ratio: 2.40:1
Codec: (MVC, AVC MPEG-4, VC-1, MPEG-2, HEVC) VC-1
For 4K HDR support: (SDR, HDR 10, HDR 10+, Dolby Vision support?) N/A - Disc 2 is just a normal Bluray Disc
Picture: (1080p/1080i 60/1080i 50 etc) 1080p
Soundtracks: (If a silent film, also state score composer or performer) English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1, German Dolby Digital 5.1, Italian Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish (Castilian) Dolby Digital 5.1
Subtitles (are they optional?): Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Norwegian, Spanish (Castilian), Swedish - All are optional.
Cuts: (and if you know it, precise run time) No cuts, Special Edition Cut of the film (151:25)
Commentaries: Yes, with director Richard Donner and creative consultant/uncredited screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz
Extras:

Behind the Story:

- Taking Flight: The Development of Superman (30:14)
- Making Superman: Filming the Legend (30:41)

Additional Footage:

- Superman Screen Test (9:21)

Audio:

- Music-Only Track (English Dolby Digital 5.0)

Trailers:

- TV Spot (31secs)
- Teaser Trailer (1:14)
- Theatrical Trailer (2:40)

Notes:

- All extras are in SD 480i 60hz.
- The Digital Copy Code expired on 31/12/2019.
- The disc loads directly into the film and doesn't bring up the main menu until either the film finishes or you press the Top Menu button on your remote.
- There are no Audio or Subtitle options on the main menu, therefore you have to change them via your remote whilst in-film.
- The case erroneously states the following:
-- The Aspect Ratio is 1:85:1.
-- The Theatrical Cut is present on both discs.
-- There are 2 Theatrical trailers present, when there is only 1 + the Teaser.

Easter Eggs: N/A
Amazon ASIN (US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain): ‎B07HXMTFV2
Source: I own it.

According to Bill Hunt's review on the Digital Bits, the US version of this release, does include the Theatrical Cut on both discs and it's just the UK version that has the Special Edition on Disc 2. Also note that Disc 1 contains a Commentary Track with Pierre Spengler and Ilya Salkind and the audio defaults to the English Dolby Digital 5.1 track.

Disc 2 is essentially just a direct port of the old 1-disc release from nearly a decade ago, right down to the menu design and use of the VC-1 Codec.

Cuts: (and if you know it, precise run time) No cuts, Special Edition Cut of the film (131:25)
Please recheck the runtime.

Also are you sure the extras are in 1080i60 MPEG-2, and not 480i MPEG-2?

I'll double check everything in the Morning since it's past 1am now and I have to hit the sack :).

Thank you but I've noticed some additional inaccuracies that need fixing please :):

1: The UK entry still says Disc 2 is the Theatrical Cut, when it's actually the Special Edition
2: Disc 1 has an Audio Commentary with Pierre Spengler and Ilya Salkind, that isn't mentioned. I haven't got the US or JP discs to compare but I imagine this commentary is also included with those releases.
3: There's a word missing in the Overall: "The identical US and Japanese releases have the Theatrical Cut with lossless audio and lengthy extras".
