The US/Canada Arrow releases have two versions of the film and the most extras.
The French release has an exclusive French interview.
GENERAL NOTES:
The film exists in at least four versions:
- the unreleased version titled "Communion" – although it would play as "Communion" overseas in some territories although with the theatrical alterations – featuring an additional teeth-bashing shot during one murder and an alternate, bloodier take of one shot during the final murder (107:05);
- the first theatrical release version "Alice Sweet Alice" with a cutaway in place of the additional teeth-bashing shot and a less bloody take of the one shot during the final murder (107:05);
- the 1981 "Holy Terror" re-release cut moved up Brooke Shields' credit in the opening titles and made other slight alterations (107:13);
- the 1997 director's cut that tightened the pacing as well as removing a sequence featuring a phone call from the current wife of Alice's father (~102 minutes). Subsequent official DVDs and Blu-rays did not recreate these alterations. -
