OVERALL: Draw
The Twilight Time release has exclusive extras.
The Criterion releases have differing exclusive extras.
Versions:
The film is based on the novel Chilly Scenes of Winter by Ann Beattie. However, the film was initially released by United Artists under the title "Head Over Heels" and screenwriter/director Joan Micklin Silver had originally included an extended "happier" ending that is less true to the novel. The extended ending consists mainly of one sequence approximately 3 minutes long.
After the film's initial box office failure, the producers & director were able to convince the studio to re-release the film with their preferred title, and director Joan Micklin Silver shortened the ending after re-evaluating her original edit. The film was successful upon re-release and the "Head Over Heels" version has never been released on home video, though it was aired on TV a few times. -
