GENERAL NOTES:
The pilot episode “Children of the Gods” exists in at least four versions:
- the original Showtime version (~97 minutes) which was rated R when submitted to the MPAA for video release (this is the version included on DVD and Blu-ray sets);
- a version shown on network television ahead of the series premiere which trimmed some violence and a scene of full-frontal nudity;
- the syndication version that splits the network-edited pilot into two episodes;
- the “final cut” (~92 minutes) created in 2008 – released direct to DVD in 2009 – in standard definition video which was intended to reflect co-creator Brad Wright’s vision. This version featured an entire score by Joel Goldsmith (David Arnold’s cues from the feature film was used in the original pilot), Christopher Judge’s performance was entirely redubbed by the actor, the nude scene was removed, scenes were trimmed for pacing, visual effects were enhanced, and a deleted scene was added. Although this version is regarded as definitive by Wright, it is considered a separate property by MGM and not included in the DVD and Blu-ray sets.
