I'm a fan of steelbooks, but only go for them if ridiculously cheap, or a new release I want and not much more expensive than the non-steelbook. It isn't something that will get me to pick one up. I do have Audition ordered from Amazon at £12.49 though, and recently picked up Cocoon (£1.50) and Cold in July (£5.00) cheap.

I'm very selective when it comes to buying steelbooks. As you might have known, many steelbook cover designs that are released today are either tacky or too arty. Just look at those Zavvi exclusives or the pop art cover designs. However, sometimes I don't mind the high price if it's a film I really like and the steelbook is limited like Eureka's Metropolis. Besides price and the film itself, another reason for me to get a steelbook is: the more closely the cover resembles the original cover art, the more likely I'll buy.
Over the years the steelbook market has evolved into a lucrative niche business that some retailers like Kimchi and Nova Media of South Korea, Blufans of China and Filmarena (Czech) have been spoiling (and exploiting) fans with limited exclusives being sold at premium prices! Fans are double-dipping or triple-dipping for the packaging! To me, that's too much
